My legs have been an issue all my life, or at least since I was a teenager. When I was growing up and became a teenager I used to compare myself with my girlfriends or other girls and always found my legs were too white, too thick and too ugly. I know my mother always said: ‘Girl you better wear shorts, otherwise your legs will never ever get a tan.’ Selftanning was not an option way back then because the products made you look bright orange. Later on, when we got a tanning bed, I spend numerous of hours on the damn thing but even then, I never got sun kissed gorgeously tanned legs.

I remember 1 day, I must have been 14 or something, I gathered all my courage and wore shorts to my fathers vegetable garden to help him out. With him was a friend and he looked at my legs and said: ‘Well, you will not tumble down with those chubby legs!’ And that must have been the last time I wore shorts.

When I became a teenager I found my legs were too white, too thick and too ugly

Growing up and being insecure about your body is one thing, but to hear someone speak out loud about your insecurities is not exactly good for your self-confidence. But when you grow older (much older) and getting wiser and having a daughter growing up, you don’t want to be insecure. You want to let your daughter know it’s all okay. Every body is different and you don’t have to compare yourself with other girls. Because you are unique and you are beautiful. I know my girl is much wiser and more self-confident than me when I was her age (she will be 18 soon). Hope I have anything to do with that 🙂

Anyway, this is me, unphotoshopped, no filters. My legs are still white (even with a self tan) and they are thicker then when I was 14 but I learned to love them. I like the freckles on them and I like that they are long and strong, they take me dancing and take me to the gym. It’s about high time I start wearing shorts again. Or playsuits.

This playsuit is one of the two I recently bought at River Island. They make the greatest playsuits with the most gorgeous prints. Keep in mind that they are sold out very quickly so if you want one you have to keep an eye at the webshop (or store then you have one nearby). This playsuit is made of a chiffon-like fabric and is completely lined except for the sleeves. I was afraid the long sleeves would be too hot but because it’s not lined it’s not that warm. I like the tassel details on the hem of the shorts and the sleeves. The waist is made from an elastic smocked band which pinches your waist beautifully. The back is open and has a little button on top. I’m wearing a black bra with a lace back and when I move you can sometimes see a little glimpse of it.

I was afraid that the shorts would ride up to the crotch when walking but this one doesn’t! So happy with that! Nothing worse than to have to pull it all day or to have to do the funny walk to avoid it from riding up (you all know what I’m talking about 😉 ). I don’t know why this one doesn’t but I think River Island has the technology and found the solution!

I will definitely take this playsuit with me on my holiday next week and be happy with my bare legs and not have to worry about them. So let’s play!

First of all, your legs are beautiful but I can relate- I feel this way about my arms. I think it’s mostly other people who put these insecurities in us and I’m so glad we have the chance to show other women we can let go of these insecurities. You are a stunning woman inside and out ❤️ and you’re so right about River Island- that playsuit is lovely!

First of all thank you 😘 and yes, it’s so weird that a complete stranger can give you so much insecurities for the rest of your life. Now I know what to say if anyone comments on my white chubby legs!

    Dear Els,
I have followed you for a long time all the way from Australia. You always present so beautifully and I enjoy seeing the different life you lead in Northern Europe because it’s just such a contrast to here, which is pretty relaxed, casual (too much so) and just so warm most of the time – it’s been 17-20ish degrees Celsius most days and we are in the middle of winter. Your legs look great and you are a very striking woman. Keep on posting!

Oh that’s so lovely to hear! I would love tot come to Australia some day, my man does have some family living there. I think the contrast with Holland and Australia is huge, Holland is very crowded! But it’s Nice and I guess it’s just what you are used to right? Anyway, Thanks for your compliment and Thanks for following me for such a long time. It means the world to me ❤️
